Teaching

Alan Johnston has a long history as a Pastor-Teacher that now encompasses more than half a century.   Not only has be taught from the pulpit, but he, along with Dr. Ron Phillips, founded the Berea Bible Institute.  Today many teachers, preachers, missionaries and hundreds of Christians seeking a deeper understanding of the Word of God have studied and even graduated from Berea.  Alan continues to serve as President of Berea and finds great joy in serving as Professor of such courses as Systematic Theology and Expository Preaching.  In addition to all else he has been a Bible teacher at Abbas House (Central Baptist Church) in Chattanooga for the past thirty- four years.  Alan has also written Bible studies on every book of the New Testament as well as writing and designing courses for Berea.   

Dowdy Johnston has spent much of her teaching ministry focused on mentoring and teaching women.  Because of her professional background in counseling she has been able to design Biblically based materials that address both deeply profound issues, as well as those that seem to continually occur on a daily basis yet demand studied answers.  Her audiences have ranged from the intimate study groups to the hundreds in women’s conferences.  Her teachings have often dealt with family dynamics, marriage, freedom in Christ, spiritual disciplines and how to develop an intimate relationship with God.

Our teaching ministry has a large library of Biblically based sessions that can be formatted to accommodate almost any teaching environment.  Sunday mornings, Sunday or weekday   evenings, a weekend session (Friday evening coupled with a Saturday morning is very popular) are the most typical times.
